What does KBO Baseball stand for?

Baseball was first introduced to Korea in 1905 by American missionary Gillette.

At that time, P. Gillett, an American missionary, taught baseball to members of the Hwangseong Christian Youth Association (now YMCA).

When Gillette, an American missionary, introduced baseball to Korea, he gave a hint on the movement of hitting the ball with a bat and called it "a ball" or "a ball ball."

On February 11, 1906, the first baseball game was held between the Hwangseong Christian Youth Association and the German language school, and the team won the game. Since then, various baseball teams, including Boseong High School, Oseong School, Gyeongsin School, and Baejae School in Seoul, were organized, and in November 1911, the Hwangseong Christian Youth Association team was the first to take the Japanese expedition.

The teams that played at that time were Jungang High School, Oseong School, Baejae High School, Hwimun Sook, and Songdo High School.

The popularity of baseball has increased, and the Chosun Sports Association was founded in 1920 and became on track. From November 4 of that year, the first All-Chosun Baseball Championship, hosted by the Chosun Sports Association, was held at the playground of Baejae Higher Common School, with five student teams and five unemployed teams participating.

Bae Jae-jae won the championship in both the middle and the youth divisions.

The most remarkable thing in the early days was the invitation of the Major League Baseball to the U.S. on December 8, 1922. At the railway stadium, the team played against the entire Korean army, and the result was a big loss of 21:3.On May 23, 1923, the Chosun Baseball Association was founded, and Korean baseball was finally on track.

In July of the same year, a Korean-American baseball team from Hawaii visited their homeland and played several games.

The following year, in 1924, at the invitation of his compatriots there, the Central YMCA's baseball team left the Hawaii expedition with Heo Seong's leadership.

His record was sluggish with one win and three losses in four matches, but he was warmly welcomed by his compatriots.Since then, baseball has continued to develop, but in 1938, when the Chosun Sports Council was forcibly disbanded, the game was suspended.

After Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule, each school promoted the image of hagwon through baseball, promoted morale, and united.

Unemployment baseball teams, including high school and college baseball, were activated. Professional baseball began in 1982. The professional baseball team, which began preparations in 1981, started with six teams, including Seoul's MBC Cheongryong, Busan's Lotte Giants, Daegu's Samsung Lions, Daejeon's OB Bears, Gwangju's Haitai Tigers and Incheon's Sammi Superstars. On March 27, 1982, MBC Blue Dragon and Samsung Lions played the opening game at Dongdaemun Stadium.
